Behind Every Great Show is a Great Studio Team
With six show teams ‘live’ and performing to thousands onboard Ambassador and Costa cruise ships sailing to fabulous destinations worldwide, and with a further three teams in rehearsal at any one time – Peel not surprisingly takes great pride in its extensive rehearsal spaces, fondly known as ‘The Base’.
The facilities, located within easy driving distance of its head office on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, encompasses two dance studios, singing/vocal studio and onsite and nearby accommodation for 20.
The Base also houses a consummate Costume facility, relaxing Green Room and the show producers’ offices.
The onsite artistic team of choreographers, vocal coaches and costume design is headed up by Artistic Producer, Paul Ainsworth, who has worked with Peel for ten years, starting life as a dancer on the ships before moving into choreography and show production.
Paul said: “Our rehearsal space really sets the scene for life on a ship as it has a real touch of glamour about it, with a beautiful corniced vaulted ceiling and huge windows which make it very light and airy.
“The unique facility at The Base also includes a suite of self-contained flats which enable the show teams to really get to know each other and feel comfortable living and working in the same space, building the ‘one team’ approach right from the beginning.”
One of Peel’s vocal coaches, Elliott Frisby, who has worked alongside some of the world’s greatest artists including The Bee Gees, Shirley Bassey and Sir Cliff Richard, also spends extended periods of time working with the show teams’ singers and performers in The Base’s bespoke vocal studio. He added:
“I’m not about churning out another good singer but instead aim to develop an artist’s true vocal potential. I take great pride in teaching the Peel show teams and enjoy taking them on a musical journey whilst watching them grow as performers.”
The actor hosts and drama product are another big part of Peel’s on-board entertainment product and so specially written plays, murder mysteries, family shows and drama based evening formats are also rehearsed at The Base, under the close guidance of Peel’s team of four drama coaches and directors.
