Peel Talent Agency is used to hiring accomplished artists, crafters and tutors in a multitude of expertise, but Yarn Bombing at Sea, was a completely new concept for us and one which proved extremely popular on board our client Marella Cruises’ ships this winter.

Carole Rennison and fellow yarn lover, Jaki Bogg, founders of Yarndale, Skipton’s unique creative festival of ‘all things woolly and wonderful’, were commissioned to take their knitting and crochet skills to the high seas on a guerrilla knitting mission!

Yes, you heard that right!

The duo, both accomplished textile workers and self-confessed ‘yarnoholics’ set sail at the end of October from Corfu to Montego Bay on board Marella’s Discovery cruise ship. We tasked Carole and Jaki with encouraging their trainees to covertly ‘yarn bomb’ the ship under the cover of darkness.

Yarn bombing is the novel activity of creating colourful woolly coverings for objects – in this case the ship’s fixtures and fittings! We hope it will encourage lots of wannabe knitters and crocheters to have a go. Carole and Jacki had planned to take Marella Discovery by storm and surprise staff and guests with their creative and cheeky yarn bombs, and we think they did just that. Not only did they get guests of all ages knitting, but they created coverings for several of the ship’s mascots, and decorated the interior and exterior with knitted bunting. We can’t wait for their next trip!
