‘History of the Suez Canal’, ‘Tastes of the Adriatic’ and ‘Caribbean Flora and Fauna’ are just some of the subjects which may be covered by a guest lecturer on-board a cruise ship. There to entertain the ship’s hundreds of guests, particularly during those ‘days at sea’, guest lecturers tend to be experts in a certain field and help add relevant information about the destinations on a ship’s itinerary. Guest lecturers are required to impart their knowledge around three to four times during a week-long cruise, in a friendly, engaging and highly entertaining manner. Guest lecturers work closely with cruise and excursion staff – their role may be paid or they may receive a free cruise in lieu of salary.
